This tree was too large to be dropped whole from the bottom. We used the bucket truck to limb, top, and cut the tree down to a manageable size. Then we attach a rope to the top, cut it from the bottom, and our ground crew pulls it down.
Notice how we lay other log sections on the ground perpendicular to the drop path. These absorb the force from the top of the tree striking the ground. Cutting and felling a tree is similar to swinging a baseball bat – the majority of the force is focused towards the tip of the tree.
If these logs weren’t there to absorb the force, the tree top may crack driveways, sidewalks, or cause excess damage to the yard.
